FactoryTalk Optix Studio Help
  • Getting started

Become familiar with the terminology, design concepts, and workflows present in the FactoryTalk® Optix™ environment and create your first project.

    • Important user information
    • FactoryTalk Optix overview

FactoryTalk Optix consists of different software components that run on different parts of your automation system.

      • FactoryTalk Optix Studio

FactoryTalk Optix Studio is an integrated development environment with a framework of functional modules for designing and compiling HMI or Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

      • FactoryTalk Optix Application

You develop and compile FactoryTalk Optix Applications in FactoryTalk Optix Studio. The compiled applications can be deployed to Windows® or Linux client systems.

      • FactoryTalk Optix Studio interface

Following is an example of FactoryTalk Optix Studio at design time.

      • Basic concepts

Review concepts common to all FactoryTalk Optix projects.

        • Objects

An object is an element that identifies a physical object such as a motor or a non-physical object such as a digital alarm.

        • Object types

An object type is a model object from which you create instances of the object. Each instance can contain specific objects and variables.

        • Variables

A variable is an element that represents a figure or a characteristic of an object and specifies the value of that characteristic.

        • Events and methods

An event is a runtime message that indicates that a certain condition has occurred. Events can trigger methods that create application logic.

        • Information model

The information model organizes nodes in projects. The main project node is the root node.

        • Terms dictionary

          Terms related with FactoryTalk Optix.

      • System log

System logs are a generic mechanism for exposing messages from FactoryTalk Optix Studio to monitor software execution flow and diagnose problems. The logs are issued both by FactoryTalk Optix Applications and FactoryTalk Optix Studio.

    • FactoryTalk Optix Studio configuration

Set FactoryTalk Optix Studio options to specify the locale and language for a project, Output pane messages, feature previews, the default code editor and unit of measurement, log level, font style, security warnings, and version control options.

    • Quick start project

Develop, compile, and run a sample HMI FactoryTalk Optix Application that demonstrates FactoryTalk Optix Studio capabilities.

  • Creating projects

Create a project and your application logic.

  • Extending projects

Use C# to implement custom functionalities into your application logic.

  • Deploying projects

Compile projects to FactoryTalk Optix Applications and then deploy the applications to target devices.

  • Tutorials

Tutorials and short procedures to help with designing your own FactoryTalk Optix Applications.

  • 21CFR Part 11 Regulation Compliance
